If you need electrical repairs or are planning remodeling that involves electrical work, it’s important to work with an electrician you can trust. Unfortunately, there are a few common electrician scams that should be relatively easy to avoid with a little insight. At Palm Desert Rangel Electric, we ensure that we provide the highest level of customer satisfaction and professional work. We recommend that you be aware of these common electrician scams when considering hiring an electrician.
Reputable Company: the best way to find a great electrician is a referral from someone you know, but that may not always be possible. If you are considering a company you are not familiar with, look for signs that they are an established company. Do they have a professional website, signage on their truck, professional business cards, and printed invoices/estimates with the company contact information? Although each of these may not be proof of good service, most long-standing companies will have these professional basics. Also, any service professional you hire should be full licensed and insured.
Too Much Jargon: a “fast talking†electrician who uses a lot of jargon or technical terms may be trying to confuse you or make the job seems bigger and costlier than it really is. An electrician who has your best interest in mind will take the time to explain the job and provide a written estimate of parts and labor.
Cost Seems Very High: if the initial description and cost seem incredibly high, this may be a scam. If you don’t already have an established relationship with an electrical company you can trust, you should always get at least three written estimates for a job. Additionally, although there can be some unexpected expenses along the way, a reputable electrician will stick to the estimate and clearly explain any unforeseen expenses.
Total Rewiring Recommended: Although this can be occasionally necessary, it’s actually pretty rare. If an electrician suggests you need complete rewiring, this should be a red flag and you should definitely look for a second opinion.
