A Brief History of Indio, CA
Indio, California also known as the city of festivals is home to many of California’s largest art and music events. Recently voted as one of the top travel destinations this city has come a long way from its founding as a railroad town that came into existence back in 1876. After some time as a rest station for railroad workers traveling from Yuma, Arizona and Los Angeles, California the city quickly transitioned into a booming agricultural region. This transition actually saved the city from becoming a railroad ghost town as it became home to the USDA’s Date Station and has become the hub for dates in California. Today, the city of Indo is currently the largest and fastest growing city in Riverside County with more than 89,000 residents.
